Hospital-acquired
(nosocomial) infections are the fourth
leading cause of death in the United
States, killing over 103,000 people
each year according to an investigative
report by the Chicago Tribune in 2002.
The infection also cost the US economy
over $4.5 billion in 1995 alone according
to Dr. Robert Weinstein, Chair of the
division of infectious diseases at Cook
County Hospital in Chicago.
Pi-Ray
fiber provides a significant step in
the battle against these germs.
Tests
at the University of Southern California
(USC), and Bio-Path Clinical Laboratories
in Van Nuys, Calif. showed that the
fabric inhibited bacteria including
Staphylococcus Aureus, Bacillus Subtillis,
Klebsiella, Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus
Aureus, Pseudomonas Areoginosa.
The
tests results showed that fabric completely
inhibits even methicillin resistant
Staphylococcus.
And
unlike most antibacterial textiles on
the market today, Pi-Ray fiber is impregnated
with minerals not coated with potentially
harmful chemicals. As a result, its
properties remain strong even after
repeated washing.
